I’m a dot com

Well, that’s not strictly true …

 I’m actually a dot uk.

That’s right, folks, I finally have a website. I began one with Weebly way back in 2012, but I didn’t make it public then because I didn’t think it would be of the slightest interest to anyone else.

There’s not a great deal on it now but, looking ahead to the day when I send out my completed (and utterly brilliant) novel, I thought it would seem more professional to add a link to my website rather than a link to my blog.

(There are links to my blogs from the website of course, but I’m hoping I’ll make such a good first impression that a busy editor or agent won’t bother to delve too deeply …)

Anyway, on the subject of good impressions, if you can spare a few minutes to take a look at the site and you notice a spelling mistake or a sentence that doesn't make sense – please let me know! I've checked it about a zillion times but I have a horrible feeling I might have missed something. I promise I won’t be offended and I’ll gladly return the favour if you want me to check your website or blog.

It all looks good - nice and clear.

Nothing happens when I click on 'News' 'Contact' etc at the bottom - should it take me to those pages? (The ones at the top work fine)

I've just set up a website too and like you I've gone for .uk Mine is patsycollins.uk

Thanks for letting me know, Patsy. I think I've fixed the links now. I'll pop over to your website asap.

The website looks reLly nice. Can I ask why you went for .uk rather than co.uk?

Hi Wendy,
Weebly is an American company, very easy to set up a website with them but they only offer .com, .net and .org domains if you don't want to use their free domain that includes their name. My first thought was that .co.uk would be a little more personal (hey, I'm British!) but then I discovered I could have a plain and simple .uk

As I'm not a company, I didn't think the co bit was really necessary, and the deciding factor was that the company I bought the domain from - www.123-reg.co.uk - had a special offer on for .uk at the time!

It looks lovely, Linda, and the photo of you is great. I'm yet to get one where I'm not squinting, sleeping or pulling a funny face. One day soon, I'll get a good one. I love weebly. My website is www.susanjanejones.com

Thanks Susan, pleased you like the photo but I also have to thank Photoshop for that. I look different in high res colour! I hate having my photo taken, I'd much rather be behind the camera, and it always shows! Popping over to your website now.
