Cut, cut, cutting

      If I could explain
       the whole thing
        in one page
          it would be
           a short story!

Am I alone in suspecting that publishers and agents ask for a synopsis as a way of discouraging would-be novelists?

I don't know, but I've never had a manuscript accepted by anyone who asked for a synopsis.

You're lucky, Henry! My novel is not ready for submission yet but I've also been working on a synopsis because most UK publishers and agents ask for the first three chapters and a synopsis before they decide if they want to see the whole thing.

I think you might just have hit the nail on the head with this post, Linda.

It has to be the hardest part of writing a novel, Sally.

You are so right.
Synopsis are a nightmare. I think writing them is the one of the most frustrating things about novel writing.
